Exploring Barcelona Spain

Image
For those looking to experience a European cruise… Barcelona Spain is an ideal sail away destination because it allows you a few days to explore the city before you depart.   Below are top things you can do while in Barcelona Spain. Walk the historic streets of the Gothic Quarter   There are many boutique hotels available near las Ramblas the good thing of   staying in one of the hotels in this area   is that you get to walk the cobble streets and get lost in a historic city.   While there we felt very comfortable walking around and safe so that added to the experience. Las Ramblas offers many shopping opportunities and there you can find some up scale stores.   However,   there are many Basilicas(churches) that you will find if you take the side streets. Getting lost in the side streets was amazing because if felt like we stumbled by a basilica every few minutes. Regardless of your religion of choice the beautiful archite...

Lessons Learned in Life | Live with Purpose

Top 3 Life Lessons Before passing away my mother taught me some very valuable life lessons.   Those lessons are now embedded in my soul.   Take care of your spirit,  love the ones your with  and do not miss the opportunity to explore.   These lessons were not learned in a traditional way…she did not sit me down and share amazing stories with me.   These lessons were learned by witnessing a life left unfulfilled.     My mother lost her battle to cancer at the young age of 54 there are many things I wished for her but we simply ran out of time. Lesson 1 - Take Care of Your  Spirit Your thoughts and spirit are shaped by the world in which you surround yourself.   Choose to   surround yourself with caring, considerate, funny, loyal, sincere, kind and thoughtful people and you will always be surrounded by love.   Choose to widen your horizon and learn from different walks of life. Do not   dismiss this o...

When in Rome | Top things to do

When in Rome | Top things to do The great thing about Rome Italy is that there are  many places you can visit; you can plan to go for one day via a cruise or you can choose to fly in and stay a few days.     My first visit to Rome was via a Mediterranean cruise which was a great opportunity to sample Italy and many places such as Sorrento, Capri, Rome, Pisa, Florence and Naples…but one day in Rome is definitely not enough time.   During our second trip  (Greek Isle Cruise) we purposely chose to leave from Civitavecchia  to  take full advantage of the time.   In our particular case we decided to spend a few days (4 in total)… before and after the cruise.   It took 2 days to do many of the things in Rome and the other 2 days were used for day trips to Orvieto,   Tivoli, and Florence.   1) Take a stroll down Piazza Navona  Great area to walk through. It has beautiful architecture and is not as crowed...

Venice Italy in a Day

Top Things to do in Venice Italy? If you are traveling to Europe via a cruise one of the best things you will find is the ability to sample many places in one trip.   The drawback is that you only have one day in each stop and you have narrow all the the things you want to do.   So when in Venice what to do with so little time?   Below are list of things you can do. 1) Plan a day trip to islands Burano and Murano   A day trip to these islands will take you about 4 1/2 hours. To get to the islands you can book a local tour or purchase an excursion with your cruise line. The positive of booking a tour is that you will get to learn the history of the surrounding islands.  We had a   local guide and she shared stories of the surrounding islands with our group that were pretty interesting.   S ome of the surrounding islands years ago were utilized to maintain those who were sick with polio and then later were turn into an insane asylum fol...

Considering a career sabbatical?

How is the happiness of life measured?   I guess people measure this in different ways. Perhaps it is measured by the things you have,   the money you earn,   or even the family circle you create.   In my case I definitely spent very little time thinking about this.   In my younger years   my only focus was financial stability. I lived every   minute and hour of the day thinking I have more time...I can do that later, if I just do this now.  I chose to dedicate my entire time to climbing the   corporate ladder.  I know what some of you may think…here is another article on minimalism, capitalism, or consumerism…but no it’s not.  In my career I worked very hard and always tried to   better myself.  All the hard work definitely did not go unnoticed.   It led me to have a successful and comfortable life.   I was always measured as   “exceeds” you know the way corporations like to measure som...
